Five tips to improve body image

  • Use the mirror instead of avoiding it. But, limit the time to brief appearance checks.

  • Avoid accounts on social media that make you feel bad about yourself.

  • Use positive words when you speak about yourself, focusing on non-physical qualities. Examples include smart, thoughtful, hardworking, and kind.

  • Engage in movement that makes you feel good, like a leisurely walk. Take a moment to appreciate the capabilities of your body.

  • Repeat a positive saying to yourself. Here are some examples to get you started:

    • “My body is only one part of who I am.”

    • “I appreciate my body because it allows me to…” (carry my child, hug my pet, pursue my hobbies etc.)
